Today we did a big hike in Bryce Canyon. Our original intent was to only go to Queen's Garden and back with an elevation change of 350 ft and 1.8 mi. Once we got down into the canyon it was so pretty that we kept going to join the Navajo trail which resulted in a 600 ft elevation change and a 3.5 mi hike. The elevation back up was very hard for us, but we did it!
We started the trip at Sunrise Point at 8017 ft Alt. We are still not used to the altitude so any hiking is hard right now. It was a gorgeous morning, about 82 deg and a clear, blue sky! The beautiful landscape made up for the huffing and puffing from the altitude.
And finally we made it to the Queen's Garden and the spire on the left looks like Queen Victoria, all made from wind and water erosion over the years!
So here we were at Queen's Garden where decided to press on to the Navajo Trail
The trail became very interesting...
It was like walking into the heart of the caverns
And then we saw the 600 ft elevation challenge...at least much of it was in shade and the switchbacks helped with resting spots! Most were coming down...I think that would have been easier!
This is a view part way up...
And we made it!!
We left tired but happy we did the longer, steeper hike. Next we headed up to Kodachrome Basin State a Park. Our original intent was to hike but our legs were like rubber so we car toured😊!
We had one more stop, Red Rock Canyon in the Dixie Forest...
And that was the Bryce Canyon Area. We loved this stop, the cool temps at 8000 ft will be missed. Tomorrow we head to Zion National Park and back to 110 deg temps!
