Mom and Dad took Sharon and Bobby on a sight seeing trip, Cooper and I stayed in our coaches as it was 104 degrees. Glen Canyon Rec Area is so big it has two marinas, two entrances, a full hook up campground in the National Park and a Resort, it is huge! There are lots of houseboats and powerboats to rent as well as any water toy you can think of!
Lake Powell is amazing when you first come in the south entrance, the water is very blue and the rock formations in the water are stunning.
The Dam was quite controversial when built on Navojo land, but now between the hydro power and a coal fired plant they supply power to the surrounding states. Lake Powell was created from the Colorado River. Both the Navajo Coal Plant which uses the water to make steam and the Hydroelectric Source merge to provide power for five million people. It took 17 years to fill Lake Powell (1963-1980) to reach its 560 ft depth!
Here is the bridge over the Dam and Colorado River, they all walked it too...
Mom and Dad knew Uncle Bobby liked to take pictures so they drove out the way Mom and Dad came in as the scenery is stunning...
That night they went out for guess what kind of food...Uncle Bobby's favorite Mexican! Mom said the food was good and the margaritas were even better. Afterwards, she said they did something really tough...hiked to Horseshoe Bend on all that food and drink when temps were still hovering near 100!!
