More from the Grand Canyon

This morning, Tuesday, Jun 14, Mom and Dad left me home resting my pulled muscle and they hiked another part of the South Rim of Grand Canyon. They started at Bright Angel, which they will hike a bit of tomorrow. Here is the trail from overhead...

They also stopped at Maricopa Point where they listened to a Ranger discuss the Canyon and they saw more views from above

They made their way up to Hermit's Rest where views of the Colorado River were prominent...

They made there way down via Pima Point. Beautiful Prickly Pear Cactus were in bloom but not many folks up there...

Tomorrow they head down into the Canyon.

Well it's Wednesday...in the middle of the night!! Mom got me up at 2:00a.m. for breakfast. I had no idea what she was thinking, but I wasn't turning down breakfast...well it soon became apparent I was getting left behind for sunrise at Mather Point, Grand Canyon!

Here is when they first arrived, about 4:30 a.m.

Then the wait...and while Mom and Dad had a prime viewing spot, as it got later they noticed it was still hazy even in the early hours.

But the sun still provided a light show on the canyon walls!

Next they did the big hike down into the Canyon on Bright Angel Trail...now you know by now Mom is scared of heights but she wouldn't let that stop her, yay!

Dad said the views were awesome...I'm not sure if Mom looked down!

It got steeper, they said going back up was twice as hard!

And it got hotter!

But they loved it!

Afterwards they went up to the famous El Tover Hotel (built in 1905) for breakfast! Eggs Benedict sounded yummy. Dad said it was the best restaurant breakfast he ever had!

Afterwards a nice lady took their picture as this was their last day up at the Canyon!

A postscript from me,Cindy: as we all morn the terrible losses in Orlando this week, I can't help but reflect how lucky we are as Americans to have these beautiful National Parks where we share our expansive beauty with the World. I hope that we will always feel safe and secure to enjoy our National treasures.

    1. It was very pretty but I thought the light reflected better at sunset and it was certainly easier since we had to get up at 2:00am to leave from Williams
